National Teams Championship (Women):
Congratulations to Lawrence GC, winners of the National Teams Championships for 2011 with a team score of -24.2, well clear of second placed Rakaia (Aorangi) on -18.6.
The Otago District final was held at Cromwell, in May, with the format being teams of 4 playing 2 x Fourball Ball rounds with both scores added together. The nett scores are adjusted against the standard scratch score for the host course and winning scores from throughout the country forwarded to NZ Golf to confirm the national champions.
The Lawrence team was Denise Neilan & Barbara Chapman – nett 58, Jocelyn Davidson & Judith Kane – nett 60 – total 118. Dunstan was second in the District final on 123.

Selector & Team Managers:
Bill Trewern has been appointed “Convener of Teams” (Men’s) for 2011.
Bill will take on the role of Manager for Senior and Age Group teams and will convene the selection process for all teams.
Selector/Coach for Senior, Masters & Age Group Teams will be Ben Gallie (Millbrook) and he will be assisted in the selection role by Neil Metcalfe & Greg Johnson (St Clair) and Murray Edgar (Otago).
Colin Cowie will continue to select Schoolboys teams and Michael Smith (GDM) will assist with the management duties for Age Group and Schoolboys teams.
The Women’s selection and team management team remains unchanged.
2011 Team Selection Policy (Men):
Posters setting out the teams’ selection process have been sent to all clubs and direct to trial players from the 2010 season.
Some extra tournaments have been added to the calendar for 2010 to give players more options to display their skills for the selectors to consider.
Players wishing to be considered for teams need to complete an entry form and return to the Executive Officer by the 12th of August.

Greg Turner Tour /Junior Order of Merit:
The final of the GTT Junior Order of Merit was played in Arrowtown in fine conditions; however it was very wet under foot. This final is an invitation only event for the top 12 boys, and top 4 girls, picked because of the points they have earned over the 2010 junior tournament season.
With the support of local Pros Craig Palmer and Ben Gallie, the group were able to play at two of the best golf courses in the county, The Hills’ and Millbrook Resort.
Craig and Ben, along with Mahal Pearce, Brent McEwan & Michael Smith played with the
groups of juniors offering support and advice as they tackled these challenging courses.
At The Hills, on day one, Thomas Facer had an impressive round of 75 – 3 over with 2 triple bogies. This was an exception to the rule however, with most juniors posting scores in the high eighties in the difficult conditions.
After Saturdays round, Thomas Facer had an 11 shot lead over Thomas Forbes, and with another consistent, day shooting 2 over par 74 at Millbrook, took out 1st overall for the weekend and the 2010 tour title. (Although played in 2011, it is the 2010 title playoff)
Chadol Han played consistently well all weekend to place 2nd and Laura Hoskin was the best of the girls finishing 4th. Antony McCullough came back from a disaster day on Saturday to shoot 2 under for a round of 70 at Millbrook to hold on to his 3rd place in the overall standings.
The Prize giving was held at Millbrook on Sunday afternoon with Greg Turner in attendance to hand out the prizes, and give the players a few words of advice.
A big thanks to Greg and The Otago Golf Academy for their support of the tour concept, established by the Southern Golf Academy in 2008.

Champions of Otago (Men):
The Annual Champion of Champions tournament will be played at Taieri Lakes GC on Sunday 21st August at 11.00am.
If you are a current Club Champion, make sure your club enters this important event.
Teams comprise of clubs Senior, Intermediate and Junior Champions and there are Gross and Nett trophies up for grabs. Substitutes are permitted if a Champion in any grade is unavailable to play.
The new Golf Otago website has been launched, although work is continuing in the background and some changes will be made in the coming weeks.
A lot of news content is to be posted during July and clubs are urged to forward items on an on-going basis to keep the site fresh and up to date.
The navigation properties of the site are still being tweaked, but users should find that there are lots of “live tags” throughout the site to link the various departments together.
In particular the “Golfison” powered calendar, used as a holding page while the site was being developed, contains considerably more information than it seems at face value.
The calendar remains a major focus of the site and the tags (or buttons) on the calendar are a live link to information on the event. By clicking on the tag for an event, a basic info page for that tournament opens and from there links are added as posters, flyers, draws, entry forms etc become available. Once the tournament is completed, full results will be attached to the page, as well as cross links in various news sections of the site.
The Sub-Associations have individual sections on the site and will be able to post news and event results, along with tournament notices and other information.
A training session will be held, towards the end of winter, for Sub-Associations and others who will be charged with posting info, or editing it. The system is ultra simple to use with anyone who is capable of sending an email able to post editorial or images on the site in a matter of minutes.
