The 2012 Central Otago Championships will be hosted by Cromwell over 36 holes on Saturday 24th of March.
The tournament will be the first open stroke play event to be held from the newly installed “black tees” on Cromwell’s upgraded layout. Although a few of the new holes are quite a stretch from the back blocks, most will play similar to the original blue tee length.
The tournament provides the opportunity for someone to set a course record on the new “Black Course”.
An added feature of the 2012 champs is the inclusion of age group sections, incorporating the Central Otago Age Group Championships.
In the past this has been a separate tournament, played at Cromwell a few weeks before the Central Otago Champs. Most of the junior players have tended to play both events and the move to incorporate them and reduce the time and cost of travel for juniors (or more accurately parents) is seen as a positive step.
The Central Otago Champs will provide for gross and nett prizes for four grades and the much sought after “Championship Clubs Team Shield”.
