Although there is one round robin match to play, Otago, Taieri Lakes and St Clair Blue are guaranteed places in the playoffs of the Metropolitan men’s Senior A pennant series.
With 20 points, Otago will host the final at Balmacewen, while the venue for the semifinal between Taieri and St Clair will depend on results next Saturday.
Taieri might tie with Otago on points after the final round, but the Balmacewen golfers will still finish first as they have an impressive 37-game tally.
Island Park is destined to finish fourth as the team has drawn three contests and was awarded one point for each, while winning teams get three points.
The leading Otago and Taieri teams both suffered losses on Saturday, with Otago giving St Clair Gold its first win of the series.
St Clair Gold posted three wins and a half against Otago while St Clair Blue was too strong for Taieri, with four wins and a half.
For St Clair Gold, Chris Idour, Luke Worthington and Eric McAuslin all posted solid wins, while at No1 Ryan Littlejohn halved with Ben Patston to get his team home.
St Clair Blue dominated Taieri.
No1 Mathew Crawford posted an impressive 8 and 7 margin over Taieri captain Ken Shaw.
Conor Jamison, Joseph Hancock and Ross Colquhoun gave the home team four wins, while the match between two former provincial representatives Tony Giles and Brett Kennelly was a tight tussle, finishing square on the final green.
Taieri’s only winner was No3 Mark Andrews, who beat Jakob Bleach two up to maintain his perfect record of eight wins from eight starts.
The Island Park sextet was on fire against Chisholm, with No1 Michael Smith and No2 Monty Wong both winning 2 and 1.
Wong beat the previously unbeaten Jason Pegler while Michael Minty, Mike Wray and Lawrence Graham ensured Island Park a 5 to 1 win. Captain Mark Collie was the only Chisholm winner, beating Park’s Jarden Hammond with two holes to spare.
