With a resounding 5.5-0.5 win over Island Park, Otago leapt to the top of the points table after the fourth round of the men’s metropolitan senior A pennant series in Dunedin on Saturday.

In the top-of-the-table clash, Otago made the most of playing at home with some convincing winning margins.

Park No1 Michael Smith was the only scorer for his team, halving with previous Queenstown junior Callum Judkins.

The Otago tail of Nick Borren and Luke Murdoch were in command, turning 6-up on Monty Wong and Mike Wray respectively.

Borren went on to win on the 12th green, while Murdoch lost the first four holes of the homeward nine, eventually winning 4 and 3.

Ben Patston and Brandon Hodgson had good wins, while Duncan Croudis beat Park No4 Lawrence Graham on the 18th green.

At St Clair, an experienced Chisholm Links sextet beat a young St Clair 4-2.

For the Links team three games finished on the par-3 16, as No1 Jason Pegler beat Jakob Bleach, MacKenzie Gibson downed Callum White and Justin Park defeated Parker Aluesi.

Park has come south from Tauranga and played his first game for his new club on Saturday.

St Clair No2 Joseph Hancock came from behind on the back nine to beat Links captain Mark Collie with one hole to spare.

St Clair No6 Connor Ross was always in command in his match against Matthew Heaton, eventually winning 5 and 4.

The most exciting finish was between No5 players. Chisholm’s Kyle Geary was 3-up on Ryan Littlejohn with three holes to go.

Littlejohn won the 16th when Geary missed a putt. The game looked to be over, though, when Littlejohn’s wild drive from the next tee finished on the 11th fairway.

But he sank a 10m putt on the green for a birdie 3 and the game went on to the final hole.

After their approaches, Littlejohn had the inside running, but it was payback time for Geary, who sank a 20m birdie putt from the front edge to secure the win.
