The Otago Junior Boys side finished 8th at the Junior Boys Interprovincial last week.
The side played off for 7th v Waikato Black on the final morning, and after all 6 singles matches the ledger was 3 matches a peice. The match was therefore to be determined by holes won, with Waikato securing 7th due to some high scoring margins of 5&4 and 473.
Earlier in the week, the side got off to a winning start on day 1 defeating Waikato Red 5-1 with No.1 Hayden Robertson leading from the front with a 7&6 victory. Later in the afternoon the team was humbled with an upset defeat to Manawatu/Wanganui 4-2.
With their fate in their own hands, the side still had a chance to top their pool yet stumbled again on Wednesday narrowly losing 3.5-2.5 to eventual finalists Bay of Plenty. This was a pulsating match for players and spectators with 4 matches going down the 18th, and 3 matches finishes all square. Joseph Hancock suffered the blow of having his opponent hole out for eagle to win the 18th and snatch a half, while Captain Parker Aluesi scrambled from 4 down earlier in the match to secure a half for Otago.
With Otago’s chances of making the final curtailed, their attention turned to Taranaki on Thursday morning and achieved a 4-2 over their North Island counterparts. Liam Judkins produced some of his best golf of the week winning 6&4. In the afternoon they faced off versus South Island rivals Canterbury and were pipped 3.5-2.5. No.1 Hayden Robertson holed a downhill 8 foot putt for birdie to win his match 1up against Zach May while No.6 Noah Novacek continued his impressive form with a 2&1 victory over Yuki Miya. Novacek finished his week with an impressive record of 5 wins from 6 matches.
