Golf Otago are pleased to welcome Phil Bungard on as the new Golf Development Officer for Golf Otago
This role had previously been a joint venture with Sport Otago but Golf Otago now have full ownership of this role and Phil started on the 1st July 2020. Phil will work out the Golf Otago Office at Sport Otago and work along side CEO Mahal Pearce.
Phil brings with him experience both on and off the golf course. Phil has worked as an Assistant Course Superintendent, Sales and Contract Sports Field Management. Along with this work experience Phil has been involved with committees at golf clubs and has worked with the junior golf sector in the past as a coach.
Phil grew up in the North Otago area and was schooled at St Kevins College in Oamaru, he was a member of North Otago Golf Club before moving to Central Otago to further his education. He has represented Otago at all age groups and has played at the highest amateur level being part of the Otago Interprovincial team. Phil is passionate about golf and feels this is a way he can give back to the sport.

The Golf Development Officers role at Golf Otago is to…
- Work with golf coaches, coach development and club volunteers to implement an effective coach/ development plan aligned to Golf New Zealand’s coaching pathway.
- Promote golf and golf pathways to junior players throughout Otago.
- Provide development training and opportunities for junior players to improve their skills and enjoyment of playing golf.
