The SIIP Master was very tight and come down to the wire on Sunday. With only half a point separating 3 teams at the end.
Played at North Otago GC this year players were set a tough task on fast greens with the warm winds on Saturday making it a challenge around the hilly North Otago course.
Southland got the better of the host Otago in the morning but could not keep that up going down by half a game in the next 3 rounds.
After the loss to Southland, Otago had its best showing in several years halving with Aorangi and Canterbury and beating Tasman to finish 3rd.
The tight games continued with Aorangi halving with close neighbours Canterbury and Otago and win against Southland but going down to Tasman 4-2.
Aorangi’s Blair Franklin had something to sing and dance about holing out on the long par 3 7th in his Saturday morning game against rivals Canterbury.
In the end it came down to Canterbury and Tasman with both teams playing each other on Sunday and throw Otago in there against Canterbury it was anyone’s for the taking.
In the last groups out on course win’s to Canterbury’s number one Forsyth over Otago’s Cook by 2 and 1 and their number 2 Dufton over Tasman’s Taylor 2up, it was all locked up between Tasman and Canterbury both with 2 ½, Otago finishing with 2, Aorangi 2 and Southland 1.
It came down to games won to break to tie with Tasman the winners by half a game on 13 games.
A fantastic SIIP Master.
Next up for these players and teams is the Freyberg NZ Master in Hamilton 2-6 November.
