The Men in Blue and Gold had a long first day on the Paraparaumu Links, coming away with and tight 4-1 win over Northland in the morning and a 2 1/2 draw over Canterbury in the afternoon.

Through 9 holes it wasn’t looking good with 3 players down but with only Hobbs and Cook both 2 up midway. Things didn’t look that great with 3 holes to play either. Cook was in control and won 3/1, then come a fight back with McEwan, Snow and Hobbs winning their last two for a 4-1 win over Northland.

The afternoon wasn’t much better with 4 games down and 1 all square after 9 against Canterbury, again it was a late run home for the Otago players with 4 games going down the last.

Cook was first in at all square, Giles found the fairway bunker off the tee and could not recover and that was the second halved match in, McEwan was next making a 10 footer for birdie to also halve, with Hobbs game lost on the 17th, it was on Snow’s shoulders, 1 up playing the last and with a stock standard par it was enough for a 1 up win.

Tuesday match up are, Bay of Plenty in the morning and Poverty Bay/East Coast in the afternoon.
